Millions of people all over the world partake in this special event to show their pets just how appreciated they really are, and you can too!

What is the National Pet Day

National Pet Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate your beloved animal ally. It’s important to let your furry friends know how amazing they are, and there are plenty of little ways to let your pet know exactly how you feel. When it comes to praising your pet on National Pet Day, the possibilities are endless. Take Fido for an extra-long walk, buy your bunny some tasty treats, play a few extra games of fetch or just spend some quality time with your little buddy. If you’re really feeling festive, you can even throw a party for your pet to show them how much you care.
National Love Your Pet Day was founded in 2006 by an Animal Welfare Advocate and Pet Lifestyle Expert named Colleen Paige. The goal of this yearly event is to honor our incredible pets, and to also bring awareness to the many pets placed in shelters currently in need of a good home. Pet adoption has long been encouraged by animal lovers across the globe, and the saying “Don’t Shop! Adopt!” has become a witty catchphrase frequently associated with National Pet Day.

Being a pet owner is a huge responsibility, but if you think you’re ready to make a dog or cat the newest addition to your family, then pet adoption is the way to go. There are plenty of animals sitting in shelters that need to be adopted, so applying for adoption or even volunteering at your nearest shelter could make a big difference in an animal’s life. Only a few weeks after National Pet Day is National Pet Adoption Day on April 30. Don’t forget to show your pet (or future pet) how much you love them all month long!

National Pet Day is right around the corner! On April 11th, be sure to give your pet some extra love in honor of how remarkable they are. Praising your pet every day is a good way show your appreciation, but a big celebration once a year will do wonders for you and your favorite furball. Give your pet lots of attention, playtime, treats, and belly rubs, and even celebrate in a big way with funny pet gifts that will keep you both endlessly entertained. Don’t forget to document all of the fun and take pictures of your pet having a party or getting a new gift to make this year’s #NationalPetDay the best one ever. And most importantly, happy National Pet Day to all of you animal aficionados out there!
